Building capacity and connections: Iron Ore 2017 Conference and visiting Professors

02-Aug-2017

Researchers from the Iron Ore Hub had a strong presence at the recent Iron Ore 2017 Conference in Perth.  This was the latest in a successful international conference series organised by CSIRO and AusIMM, and was well attended with over 450 delegates.  Hub students and academics co-authored and presented 14 papers at the conference, with RHD student Deepak Kumar receiving the best student paper award.  NIER, as a Gold Sponsor, ran an exhibition booth at the event.

The Iron Ore Hub also ran a special full day research seminar for BHP, our major industrial partner, with updates on the 3 streams of research; Beneficiation, Materials Handling, and End-use Functionality.

Professor Shengli Wu and his RHD student from the University of Science and Technology in Beijing (USTB) also visited NIER following the conference.  The Iron Ore Hub and USTB are forging stronger connections, with reciprocal visits and the employment of recent USTB graduate Xinliang Liu as Hub RA to research the behaviour of iron ore lump and sinter in the ironmaking blast furnace.

The third Australian ironmaking materials symposium brought together 28 key researchers from across industry and academia to share research results and to identify and exploit synergies between resear..
