Dr Jie Guo completed a bachelor degree in Thermal Energy and Power Engineering and later her PhD degree under the supervision of Emeritus Professor Alan Roberts at the UoN. Dr Guo continues her research career with Newcastle University and is affiliated with TUNRA Bulk Solids. Previously Dr Guo was employed by Jord International as an Applications Engineer.

PhD, BE (1st Class Hons) – University Medal, Grad Dip Christian Studies

Dr Iveson’s PhD involved developing a wet-powder granulation/agglomeration regime map for predicting granule growth behaviour, relevant to a wide range of industries including minerals processing, pharmaceutical, detergents and agricultural products. He has also worked in the Centre for Multiphase Processes (UoN), continuing his focus on granulation, including research on fine iron ore pelletisation and liquid absorption into porous iron ore particles. Dr Iveson is currently focused on laboratory, pilot and full-scale trials of the REFLUX™ Classifier technology.

Dr Liu completed his Bachelor’s Degree and Doctorate in University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB), China majoring in Metallurgical Engineering. He then worked for Hebei Iron and Steel Group, the largest ironmaking and steelmaking group in China. In 2016, he joined the Iron Ore Hub with a research focus on properties and end-use of iron ores, including Reduction Disintegration, Sticking in COREX Shaft Furnace, Softening and Melting Behaviour, High Temperature Interaction, Primary Slag Formation Behaviour, Optimization of Blast Furnace Burdens

Dr Mitra's research interests encompass complex multiphase flow systems specifically interfacial flow problems involving droplet and bubble dynamics. Dr Mitra's work utilises high speed imaging to capture the small scale interaction dynamics, thermal imaging for temperature measurement, and particle image velocimetry (PIV) for flow measurement; and computational modelling of these interactions using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and discrete element method (DEM) approach.

Dr Zhou has worked for several organizations, including Monash University and Adelaide University, CSIRO. His early research interests covered suspension Rheology and Rheological measurements at high temperature and utilization of fluidization technology. His recent research involves the gravity separation of various minerals, including iron ore using REFLUX™ Classifier technology. Currently, his main focus is the dry beneficiation of fine iron ore using new, novel technologies.

Dr Dusan Ilic

Dr Dusan Ilic is a chartered mechanical engineer with extensive experience in consultancy and R&D projects involving the storage, handling and transportation of bulk solids. His specialities include characterisation and numerical modelling and applying findings to optimise, troubleshoot and improve industry standards, operational practices and processes. The focus of Dr Ilic’s work will be translation of numerical modelling research to engineering criteria and processes on site.

Dr O’Shea completed a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering and her Doctorate at the University of Newcastle. Dr O’Shea works as a Research Associate at The Centre for Bulk Solids and Particulate Technologies where she conducts research on various materials handling systems utilising experimental, numerical and computational modelling.
