Tom Honeyands, Xinliang Liu, Tobin Harvey (The University of Newcastle) Technical team, Damien O’Dea via Webex (BHP) The UON group visited the BHP Iron Ore Technical Marketing on 21st Sep 2018 to present the recent progress in sintering and lump ore work. Tom made a brief introduction to the CIMR (The Centre for Ironmaking Materials Research), including the people, facility and R&D work, also the DEM modelling work in sintering process. Xinliang and Tobin presented their work in lump ore (softening and melting behaviour, interaction between high basicity sinter and NBLL) and sinter quality (influence of temperature, holding time and cooling on the strength of sinter analogues). The presentations were well received. This kind of meeting helps to build the connections between the marketing and research to work together in the future to support BHP products and customers, and also benefits the research group in understanding the major and urgent issues of the industry.
