Third Australian Ironmaking Materials Symposium

The third Australian ironmaking materials symposium brought together 28 key researchers from across industry and academia to share research results and to identify and exploit synergies between research groups. Jointly organised by the ARC Iron Ore and Steel Hubs, the symposium was held in Newcastle with attendees from BHP, BlueScope Steel, Liberty Primary Steel (via Skype), CSIRO and the Universities of Newcastle, Wollongong, and Queensland. The symposium comprised 15 invited presentations covering topics in iron sintering, blast furnace ironmaking, SEM techniques to measure sinter mineralogy, non-standard tests to assess ferrous burden quality, and current industrial practice. A fourth symposium is planned for 2019.

The ARC Research Hub for Advanced Technologies for Australian Iron Ore held its Virtual Hub Showcase on 23 November 2020. University of Newcastle Vice- Chancellor Prof Alex Zelinsky hosted the event.
